The Winsor & Newton Henry Collection Drawing Ink Pack is an excellent introduction to the bold and beautiful world of pen and ink, complete with a booklet explaining different techniques. This great British company’s worldwide reputation for colours extends to Winsor & Newton Drawing Ink for pen and brush work. Introduced in the 1890s, these have been the choice of illustrators, designers and calligraphists ever since. Made with soluble dyes combined with a shellac binder, they’re non-permanent (except for Black, Liquid Indian, Gold and Silver) and water-soluble but water-resistant when dry. That means you can apply them thick for a rich gloss finish, dilute them with distilled water to increase transparency for wash work, or work over them once dry without fear of bleeding. Whether rich blacks or bright bold colours, you’ll find Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks are a joy to use. The Winsor & Newton Henry Collection Drawing Ink Pack contains 14ml bottles of: Liquid Indian (Black), Blue, Scarlet, Canary Yellow, Emerald, Nut Brown, Orange, Violet.

Q&A (1)
Q I want to use these (or similar ) to dye hardwood items, not to hide the grain, but to make the wood more vibrant. My question is : can they be diluted with spirit ? Using water may raise the wood grain and spoil the effect. Regards.
A "

It is suggested that Winsor & Newton drawing inks should be diluted with distilled water, as regular tap water and other substances can cause the dye to separate from the binder. They are shellac based so this could potentially be used to thin them.
