AN INTRO TO STOP-MOTION ANIMATION PUPPETS: WORKSHOP #1 HEADS & FACES
20th Apr 2024
This is a specialised workshop so a little previous experience or knowledge in sculpting or puppetry is beneficial, please contact workshop tutor Tilda with any questions or queries, she is happy to help! The class size will be small (6 spaces). These workshops are part of a series but it is not necessary to attend all of the sessions. Attendees will create a unique stop motion character head with fully moving eyeballs and replacement eyelids. The puppet heads will be 4-5cm, a larger scale than common industry stop-motion size, this is so that the techniques will be easier to practise. Tilda will guide you through skills required to shape balsa wood, sculpt epoxy putty and transform a 2D design into a 3D character head. She will share practical tips as well as animating exercises and software recommendations. Attendees will also be provided with a set of replacement sticker mouths so that by the end of the workshop everyone will have a puppet head ready to animate (should you want to - they also make great unique sculptures!)
Tilda Teekens completed 3 years of classical art school training before taking a degree in historical costume making. She has made costumes for opera shows, music videos and drag performers in the UK and Europe. She studied stop-animation puppetry for 2 years and is currently working on her debut micro short film 'Opa'. She is sharing her knowledge and skills in a series of workshops - stay tuned for more.
