The end of autumn and the start of winter brings a distinct chill in the air. But the hearts of art exhibition lovers nationwide will be warmed by the opening of some of these excellent displays. We've put together a handy list of the upcoming art shows across the UK.
Transmitting Andy Warhol @ Tate Liverpool
A must for Warhol enthusiasts. This exhibition sees over 100 pieces from the pop art master at his first northern display. It offers fresh insights into Warhol’s range, which here features paintings, films, photographs, prints and drawings.
Our pick: The Marilyn series sees Warhol’s iconic interpretations of the screen idol.
When can I see it? 11th November - 8th February, 2015.
The Institute of Sexology @ The Wellcome Collection
The story of sex study is told through the pioneering, taboo-ridden works of the likes of Sigmund Freud, Margaret Mead and Marie Stopes. This trailblazing exhibition features more than 200 items encompassing photography, art, erotica, film and archive material. Display organisers invite viewers to undress their minds.
When can I see it? 20th November - 20th September, 2015.
Allen Jones @ The Royal Academy of Arts
Few artists have been as distinctive as Jones since his birth in 1937. Chiefly renowned for his sculptures, the controversial Jones quickly became a leading light in the young pop art movement. This display spans most of his long career, including prints and paintings as well as his trademark sculptures.
When can I see it? 13th November - 25th January, 2015.
Gaugin: Tales of Paradise @ Ordovas
The French-born post-impressionist’s quest for Elysium comes under the microscope here. Tahiti and Brittany are the two playgrounds where Gauguin (1848-1903) came close to a heavenly state. This exhibition presents a painting and a sculpture he created during his time in each of them.
Our pick: Not a sculpture or painting, but some letters. His correspondence with Van Gogh is as instructive as it is priceless.
When can I see it? 4th December - 18th April, 2015.
Christmas 2014 @ Union Gallery
The Bethnal Green gallery hosts its yearly seasonal extravaganza showing off the best from its finest artists. Its current stable includes Rose Wylie, Soon Hak Kwon, Kieran Moore, Mike Marshall and Shane Bradford.
When can I see it? 2nd December - 2nd January, 2015.
