Past event: We support the Drawing Room Bursary Award
Cass Art is proud to support the Drawing Room Bursary Award 2013. The Bursary Award reflects Drawing Room’s commitment to supporting the production of new work and the development of artists’ practice at significant stages in their career.
This year’s recipient of the Award is artist Ciara Phillips, whose practice explores an expanded approach to printmaking and photography as well as the collaborative nature of art production and the communities of interest that give rise to the creation and dissemination of art and ideas. Throughout August Phillips will be able to use the Drawing Room gallery as her studio space, setting it up as a screenprinting studio to which she will invite collaborators to open up dialogue through printing.
On Thursday 15 August Drawing Room hosted a talk with Co-director Mary Doyle in conversation with Ciara Phillips at the gallery. The talk explored Phillips’ working methods and her current research towards her new body of work.
Ciara Phillips was born in Ottawa, Canada, and is currently based in Glasgow. She studied Fine Art at Queen’s University, Kingston, where she received a BFA in 2000, and at the Glasgow School of Art where she received an MFA in 2004.
Selected recent exhibitions include: There should be new rules next week, Dundee Contemporary Arts (2013), And more, Inverleith House, Edinburgh (2013), The Souls: A Twice Told Tale, CEAAC, Strasbourg (2013), Slippery under pressure, OUTPOST, Norwich (2012), Pull Everything Out, with Corita Kent at Spike Island, Bristol (2012).
Phillips also has upcoming exhibitions at The Showroom, London, and at the Neues Museum Nürnberg and she will artist-in-residence at St. John’s College, Oxford in 2014. In 2010 Ciara started Poster Club, a collaborative project with Laura Aldridge, Anne-Marie Copestake, Charlie Hammond, Kendall Koppe, Nicolas Party, Tom O’Sullivan and Michael Stumpf.
