Call for Entries: Griffin Art Prize 2014
by Cass Art
Graduation has come and gone, but this summer there is no excuse to stop making artwork. An exciting opportunity has arisen for new art graduates, with a chance to win a solo show, a six-month artist residency and the career boost of a lifetime.
The Griffin Art Prize 2014 UK is an exciting opportunity for emerging artists in painting and drawing, who have graduated since 2009.
The prize offers the overall winner a six-month artist residency in the Studio Building, London. The winner will be provided with a spacious, well-lit studio, art materials and a small financial allowance to make work for their solo show in September 2015 at the Griffin Gallery.
10 shortlisted artists will be given a group exhibition at the Griffin Gallery, and 20 entrants will be selected for the long list, having their work showcased on the Griffin Art Prize website to gain them national exposure.
The overall winner will be selected from a panel of judges on the basis of the shortlist exhibition, and announced at the private view in the Griffin Gallery on 18th November 2014.
Judges will be looking for innovation and originality in painting and drawing, and for the applicants' potential to benefit from the awarded residency.
This year's judges are artists Gordon Cheung amd Anj Smith, Camden Arts Director Jenni Lomax, art critic Alastair Smart and owner of Lindéngruppen Jenny Lindén Urnes.
The prize is supported by the leading fine art brands Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris.
