Our Staff: Emily Parker Illustrates
Illustrator, designer, print screen champion and retail assistant in our Cass Art Kensington store, Emily Parker has a lot of knowledge to share! We catch up with her after the launch of her range of Christmas cards for a greater insight on what she's up to…
So Emily, where was it that you studied and what course did you do?
I studied BA (Hons) Illustration at the University for Creative Arts, on the Maidstone campus. When I finished university I realised I no longer had access to screen printing facilities so I bought the system 3 screen printing set. It is a really good starter set for people who want to get into the hobby.
Printing is clearly your niche, but what techniques are your favourite?
My favourite technique has to be screen printing - but I also occasionally work in linocut and stencil cut outs.
Are you discovering any themes within your work? Or is there a certain style, artist or movement that really inspires you?
A few artists that have really inspired me are Julian Opie, Andy Warhol and Rob Ryan. These artists have introduced me to block colour and pattern making which are two things I often use in my work.
What are your favourite products to use?
What are you working on at the moment, and what's coming up in the future?
At the moment I have been working on a Christmas range of cards and wrapping paper… In the near future I plan to keep working on my furniture so I can perfect the printing method and also I will hopefully be bringing out my wedding stationary range next September.
I also actively sell all my work on my Etsy website as well as my standard website.
