Call for Entries: The Batsford Prize for Students 2018

The Batsford Prize is an annual student award organised by leading art publisher Batsford. Now in its sixth year, the award is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students of fine and applied art, fashion and illustration. There are five categories to enter for UK students: Fine Art/Applied Arts, Fashion, Illustration and Children’s Illustration.

Also new for this year is the introduction of The Batsford Prize: International, a separate illustration category open to students studying at instututions outside of the UK, with the winner receiving a $500 USD cash prize from Batsford. 

Batsford are awarding a £500 cash prize to the winner of each category and Cass Art are awarding a further £500 cash prize for the overall winner across the categories. Winners and runners up across the domestic and international categories will also receive Batsford books, taking the total prize pot value to £7,000. 

Theme for 2018: Craving Colour

The theme of The Batsford Prize 2018 is ‘Craving Colour’. Entries should show innovative and well-crafted interpretations of colour, in terms of subject or materials used, or a combination of the two.

The shortlisted candidates will be announced in April and the winners will be revealed at an awards event in London in May 2018.
