During this workshop we will study oil painters best known for their explorative colour palettes when representing light- before applying what we've learnt into practice by painting multiple still life's of objects under a light. We'll firstly compare artists, ones from older movements to contemporaries, to see their differences on how they convey light and what trends of colours are used when painting lights and darks. We'll begin comparing colours side by side, referencing paintings we'll be looking at, and begin understanding how to handle paint by producing more abstract pieces. We'll be using brushes to play around with mark making and thinning out the paint and also trying thicker application, pushing how versatile oil paint can be. Once we all feel confident with this we'll then paint different shaped objects placed under a light so it has a high contrast of lights and darks. Learning to separate painting the colours of the actual objects but painting the lights and darks on it.
The workshop will be held upstairs in the cafe, no wheel chair access unfortunately. The cafe will be offering a discount on drinks.
