Description

These beautiful Khadi Lokta and Mitsumata papers are made from the inner bark, or bast fibre, of lokta and mitsumata – native plants of the Himalayan foothills.

  • It’s a sustainable method of papermaking since the plants regrow after being cropped and can be harvested again after three or four years.
  • More good news is that the resulting paper has a smooth surface and a beautifully rich texture.
  • They’re made using the Japanese nagashizuki dipping and layering method and are perfect for ink drawing, calligraphy, printmaking and bookbinding.

This pack contains 20 mixed A3 sheets of Lokta and Mitsumata paper. Lokta is darker-toned and has a harder surface than Mitsumata.

29th May 2018 Reviewed by Ayla Paul Beautiful paper. I first thought it would very flimsy because of the weight, it's only 20-40gms. However it's quite sturdy, which I was pleased about. I used this for some lino printing, with water-based inks and they turned out beautiful. I sold the first print within a day. The picture shows three colours paper, my pack came with 2 different colours, unless I couldn't tell the difference between the two Lokta papers (the darker one). Very pleased that this is vegetarian, most other handmade papers use gelatine. I was looking for a beautiful handmade paper with deckled edges for my lino printing and am very happy with these. Will definitely buy more of these. Tip if you want to use it for lino printing too: don't use your standard baren, as this might slightly damage the paper, instead use a (wooden) spoon to make your print!

27th February 2014 Reviewed by Laura Dixon 10 sheets of the lighter paper, 10 of the darker. Each piece looks and feels different, so not for you if you want every piece the same, but if you're happy with variety it's lovely. The paper has a soft, almost torn edge, and contains small fibres.
