Q&A (2)
Q What is charcoal used for?
A

Charcoal is a brittle drawing media that is dense in colour and easy to smudge. This smudging technique is used to create gradients and shadows and makes for a fast and hands on approach to drawing. Charcoal is particularly good for working on quick large scale drawings.

Q Is charcoal water soluble?
A

No, charcoal will not solute in water. However you can use turpentine to solute charcoal should you wish.

24th February 2018 Reviewed by David Roe Having been through and out the other side in painting with acrylics and watercolours, I found a year ago that pastels and charcoal fit my needs to enable me to blend colours effectively. I have a variety of differing makes and at different costs to experiment with. Good to see a variety of coloured charcoal.

Great product, although it would be great to have a true black at the far end of the shades. The darkest is still very grey.

I would recommend for drawing on paper.
