Q&A (2)
Q What is charcoal used for?
A

Charcoal is a brittle drawing media that is dense in colour and easy to smudge. This smudging technique is used to create gradients and shadows and makes for a fast and hands on approach to drawing. Charcoal is particularly good for working on quick large scale drawings.

Q Is charcoal water soluble?
A

No, charcoal will not solute in water. However you can use turpentine to solute charcoal should you wish.

6th May 2014 Reviewed by Deborah Pugh Used to create areas of texture and dark marks these charcoals are lovely to use under my watercolours. As they are smooth to apply they would be useful to anyone wanting to draw expresively.
