EXHIBITION: CALLIGRAPHIC PORTRAIT

EXHIBITION: CALLIGRAPHIC PORTRAIT

29th Sep 2023

CALLIGRAPHIC PORTRAIT by Vincent Box seeks to reconnect letter to imagery. For “letters are images”, stripped of their meaning, used only for their strokes, curves and shapes. Vincent is a Calligraffiti Artist based in Glasgow. Inspired by the diversity and the multicultural region of his country - Reunion Island. He delves into his Indian, Madagascan and European roots and creates colourful, exotic calligraphy compositions mixing textures, messages, symbols and portraits.

Vincent Box attended the Applied Arts school and L’ILOI in Reunion Island. Later he emigrated to Canada, where he graduated as a Graphic Designer and worked for a magazine and association. Bored by the rise of digital artwork happening in early 2010’s, Vincent took his chances and instead learnt calligraphy with a renowned Master, Marco Chioini, in Montreal. Soon he would begin GARBAGE BEAUTY, creating quirky messages on abandoned public objects, with his partner and friend LOREM IPSUM. Vincent has participated at multiple art festivals and art projects such as the MURAL FESTIVAL, LE LAIT at MCCORD STEWARD MUSEUM in Montreal and WYNWOOD MANA VILLAGE in Miami. He has also exhibited at PALETTE at LA FRICHE VISUEL ART CENTER. After his return to his hometown in Reunion Island some time later, street art had taken off. Vincent started adding more bright colours to his work and expressing more figurative work. Vincent is based in Glasgow and continues to create and participate in
events in Europe and Africa. boxvincent.bigcartel.com
