HAND LETTERING ART

Join Alison and discover simple ways to hand draw letters. Using pencils, fine liners plus a selection of colours (including paint), design, draw and decorate however you want. No experience needed and equipment provided. If you enjoy design and drawing, this calming activity might appeal to you.

Workshop tutor Alison discovered calligraphy as a child and was immediately captivated by all the different lettering styles and would practise whenever she could. She promised herself that one day she would accomplish what seemed impossible at such a young age. There were never any courses to attend, so she basically taught herself. Experimenting with different pens and writing surfaces proved invaluable (as did drawing letters). People started to ask her to write various words/ poetry etc. Wedding themed writing still remains a favourite area to work on, alongside historical texts and poetry. A favourite commission was the Flanders Fields poem, gifted to the Royal British Legion. Approximately twelve years ago, Alison was extremely fortunate to meet with a former Lecturer on Heraldic Art and Calligraphy, who offered personal tutoring. This experience was awe-inspiring. Alison loves to share her passion for calligraphy and Lettering art and maybe inspire others to have a try.
