This beginner-friendly watercolour workshop celebrates Lunar New Year through the delicate and symbolic beauty of the sakura (cherry blossom). Participants will be guided step-by-step to create their own sakura flower painting while learning fundamental watercolour techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Class Outline:

  1. Introduction to Watercolour Painting: Understand the unique characteristics of watercolour as a medium. Learn about essential tools and materials needed for the class.
  2. Basic Watercolour Techniques: Wet on Wet: Discover the magic of blending colours and creating soft gradients. Wet on Dry: Explore controlled brushwork and crisp edges.
  3. Comprehending Light and Shadow: Study the interplay of light and shadow to bring dimension and depth to your artwork. Learn techniques to create realistic shadows and highlights on the sunflower.
  4. Step-by-Step Sakura Flower Painting: Guided, hands-on demonstration of painting a sakura flower using the learned techniques.

Workshop tutor Anne Wiziack is a Brazilian artist born in São Paulo and based in Liverpool, England. Anne works with natural inks, watercolour, and acrylic, creating artwork that reflects her passion for sustainability and cultural diversity.
