Description

The Daler Rowney Georgian Water Mixable Oil colours offer the possibility of oil painting without the need for solvent-based mediums. An alternative to traditional oils, the balanced range of 40 vibrant colours can be thinned, mixed, and washed using water and as such is ideal for use indoors and in a classroom environment.

  • All Georgian Water Mixable Oil colours offer high levels of lightfastness, pigment load, and durability.
  • The viscosity and smooth texture of the colours out of the tube mirror traditional oil colours and can be used for impasto techniques, or thinned down with water they can create wash effects similar to watercolours.
  • Surface-dry between 5 and 7 days, and no colour shift from wet to dry.

26th July 2018 Reviewed by Deirdre Keetley I had avoided using water mixable oils as I considered they might not work as well in terms of blending and depth of colour. However I found that these oils could be used in monoprinting in combination with watercolours. They are perfect for use in the printing process of monotype. I have also found using them direct from the tube to be of great benefit in building up details in oil paintings which are dry and almost complete - e.g. clouds, trees, grass - by rubbing these colours on top of dry paint it is possible to achieve effects unobtainable with wet oil paint.
