Painting Expressive Landscapes by Carole Robson

This is an exciting, experimental journey in the company of someone who knows exactly what she's doing and is able to explain it with remarkable clarity! Carole uses watercolour and mixed media (gouache, liquid colour, inks and applied materials to give texture) to create a huge variety of effects that reflect the changing moods of the landscape. Her whole idea is to react to what you see and allow your imagination to control how your materials work. This is painting by instinct and could so easily go wrong, but Carole shows you how to concentrate on the result in order to keep everything on track. This is not a book specifically about abstraction, and the results are always firmly fixed in the real world, but there are elements of interpretation that go beyond simple representation. Carole's subjects include trees, flowers, vegetation and water and she offers plenty of different ways of interpreting their shape, colour and interplay.
