Perylene Maroon is a dark maroon pigment, that first became available as a dye in 1912. A deeper, more lightfast alternative to Alizarin Crimson, it’s been available to artists since the late 1950s. A dark red-brown tone, it is semi-transparent and has a super staining power. Paintings that use it include The Japanese Footbridge by Claude Monet and Red on Maroon by Mark Rothko.
