Description

This Pro Arte Prolene Synthetic Brush Round Series 101 is one of Pro Arte’s incredibly popular Prolene brushes, made with synthetic polyester bristles specially developed so that they don’t become charged up with static electricity.

  • This means that they behave like sable, while being more durable and significantly less expensive.
  • They’re ideal if you’re looking for a value-for-money watercolour brush but don’t want to compromise on quality.
  • The Series 101 is the round version of the Pro Arte Prolene Synthetic Brush.

We sell it in a huge range of sizes to suit all purposes.

Q&A (4)
Q What are the benefits to using a synthetic brush as oppose to a natural hair brush?
A

The most obvious advantage is that using a synthetic brush is kind to animals, but synthetic brushes also tend to be more durable and longer lasting than a natural hair brush. Furthermore, synthetic brushes do not expand in water and tips of brushes also stay finer for longer. This can prove helpful when applying paint for fine detailing.

Q My brush has misshapen over time. How can I rectify this?
A

If your brush has misshapen, you can do so by soaking in boiling water and allowing brush to reshape. Please keep in mind that if your brush is resting on its bristles, this will affect its shape so take care when soaking. Should you wish to retain the point of your brush, you can do so by dipping in gum Arabic and reshaping. Make sure you leave your brush to dry fully before using after applying gum Arabic, as the medium could potentially change the effect of the paint you are using.

Q What are the benefits to using a natural hair brush as oppose to a synthetic brush?
A

Using natural hair for the bristles of a brush as oppose to using synthetic materials is a more traditional practice. Natural hair brushes tend to carry and hold more colour than a synthetic brush.

Q What can I use to clean these brushes?
A

This all depends on the kind of paint used. Synthetic bristles are quite robust and can be used with lots of different cleaning materials such as turpentine or solvent based paint brush cleaners. However, avoid using acetone based cleaners on synthetic brushes as this may affect the brushes longevity.

15th October 2016 Reviewed by ABIGAIL LAO I use the smaller sizes for brush calligraphy and miniature watercolour painting. The bristles on the tip becomes bent after a few uses. One brush was already bent when i bought it.

8th July 2016 Reviewed by Ian Neilson These brushes are fantastic synthetic watercolour brushes. The larger mops hold a lot of colour and they seem to hold their shape well, they also seem to be quality workmanship. They are not Kolinsky sable number 7's but are fantastic brushes for a working artist. They are certainly good enough for daily use and fine work. I have so far used these for painting illustration work, would recommend.

1st January 2015 Reviewed by neisenstein I only got it so I'm not sure how it'll be in the long run, but for now I am very satisfied. I bought the 4/0 size and it is very fine. I just wish it came with a protective cup since these fine sizes tend to get messy...
