Q&A (7)
Q Hi, This looks great though I paint on wood which is quite heavy, how much weight can this easel support? Thanks, Pat
A

Hi Pat, we are unable to say exactly how much weight this easel can support but it's designed to be used for sketching. I would recommend a very solid easel if you are working on something quite heavy. Our Cotswold and Thames easels have much sturdier bases and so would hold the work more securely.

Q I want some easels to hold A1 foam boards for a presentation. They look perfect, but I wondered how high can they extend?
A

They can extend to 33in so it will be able to hold an A1 peice of foam board.

Q Hi, does it fold flat, in order to paint water colours?
A

Thus easel only hold work upright, however the Bristol Watercolour Easel can be adjusted to hold work flat.

Q Who is this easel best for?
A

This sketching easel is lightweight and has retractable/foldable legs, making it easily transportable and idyllic piece of equipment for artists who like to work on location.

Q Can this easel be used on a table as well as on the floor? ? What is the smallest height it can be? Thank you.
A

Yes, you can use it either on the floor or on a table top. The smallest height is 60cm.

Q Hi, would this easel be able to hold an A1 wooden drawing board, on which I aim to do charcoal/pencil drawings on A1 paper?
A

Yes: this easel will hold a canvas/board/pad at a maximum 33inches, which is the longer side of an A1-sized object.

Q I want the best portable easel available. I have seen the w&n Bristol and I rather like the look of the Jaker. The one that costs about £35. And advice would be appreciated. Regards Ted
A

Both these easels have a full 5 star rating from customers so I can see why you are having a hard time choosing. However the one main difference between them is the weight difference, the Bristol is 1.8kg making it more sturdy and the Jaker is 1kg making it easier to carry around. I'd recommend you read the reviews for both items left by previous customers.

25th May 2016 Reviewed by Hilary Greer Very light and easy to use, with neat carry bag, but apparently designed for artists less than 5'6" tall. Can't fix board/canvas high enough esp small ones. Also with legs at full stretch it's hard to adjust angle of canvas and maintain stability of tripod. I like mine more vertical. Would work well as a table easel or for display.

8th March 2014 Reviewed by Kerry Jeffs I use this whilst standing, and as a table top, it saves my neck ache I get while working directly from the table. I have a roll of canvas for my art and I use rigid cardboard for support, the easel does not support it as I would like it to, it needs to be thicker, it's nothing that I can't sort out though. Otherwise it's great, very useful.
