The Rembrandt Excellent Artists Oil Colour Box contains a wide range of 41 oil colours along with everything you would need to develop an oil painting practice. Rembrandt Oil Colours are trusted by Artists worldwide for their extra fine quality.

They maintain the highest levels of lightfastness and with their very high pigment concentration levels - the intense colours have optimal colour strength. This would make the ideal gift for an artist who wishes to develop their skills as an Oil painter.

Q What are the benefits of painting oil as oppose to acrylic or watercolour?
A

All three types of painting offer very different experiences. Oil paints boast beautiful colour depth and blending properties and their long drying time allows the painter the flexibility to make changes over longer periods of time than when painting with acrylic or watercolour. Oil painting is one of the more traditional art practices and holds historical significance, the oldest discovered oil painting dating back as far as the 7th century.

Q What surfaces do oil paints work best on?
A

Canvas is a popular surface for painters using oil colour. You can also paint onto oil paper, wooden panels or non-absorbent materials such as metal or glass. All surfaces will need to be correctly prepared before using with oil colour to ensure the paint grips to the surface, as well as avoid any risk of the oil base of the paint seeping through the surface. You can ensure that your surface is safe to use with oil paint is by priming it beforehand with gesso.

The dimensions are 62.5 x 36 x 13cms and it weights roughly 2800 grams.

This box contains the following colours: 15 ml tubes of Permanent Yellow Light, Emerald Green, Permanent Orange, Sap Green, Quinacridone Rose, Transparent Oxide Yellow, Permanent Violet Medium, Transparent Oxide Red, Prussian Blue and Raw Umber, and 40ml tubes of Permanent Lemon Yellow, Permanent Green Medium, Permanent Yellow Deep, Phthalo Green Blue, Permanent Red Medium, Yellow Ochre, Carmine, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Deep, Burnt Umber, Phthalo Blue Green and Ivory Black, as well as two 60ml tubes of Zinc White.
