- Q can these spray paints be used on any material? wood in particular? and will it last?
- A
These can be sprayed onto wood, concrete, canvas, glass, plastic (we sell a plastic primer to help it to last for a longer period of time on smooth surfaces) and almost anything that is sturdy. It is waterproof once it dries and will last through some wear and tear.
- Q Can these be used on my bmx rims?
- A
Montana Spray Paint can be applied to metal and flexible surface so it should be suitabel to spary on BMX rims.
- Q Will these sprays work on straw? I want to darken a hat I need to make.... Thanks
- A
These will work well on almost any non porous material as the solents in Montana tend to react badley. Liquitex spray paints are waterbased and a bit more flexible.
- Q Can these sprays be used on 3D printer filament such as ABS or PLA?
- A
The solvents in Montana mean they don't react well to porous material but Liquitex spray paints are water based so work on a wider range of materials.
- Q Can these sprays be used on fabric and are they permanent?
- A
These are permanent but we would reccomend Liquitex spray paint as they are very flexible.
- Q will Montana spray paint be able on a scooter. i mean like re- spray paint it or not
- A
Montana spray paint is suitable for spraying onto most services including most plastic and metal so it should be suitable for re-painting a scooter. Its also lightfast and weather proof.
- Q Can it be applied on Acrylic Perspex Sheet, eq Plexiglass.
- A
This can be applied but to stand up to ware and tear we reccomend using a plastic or universal primer.
- Q
Do these dry matte?
- A
The finish on Montana Spray Paint is best described as matte/satin.
- Q
Would I need a primer if I was spraying glass?
- A
No, you can use Montana Spray Paint directly onto untreated glass. However, I would suggest thoroughly cleaning the surface of the glass before painting.
- Q What are the benefits of painting acrylic as oppose to oil or watercolour?
- A
All three types of painting offer very different experiences. Acrylic paint is a versatile media, available in varied forms and viscosities. It can be applied onto many different surfaces and with a variety of mediums, making experimenting with acrylic both easy and satisfying. It is also water mixable and fast drying, which presents the artist with a fuss-free approach to painting.
- Q What surface does acrylic paint work best on?
- A
Acrylic paint works best on cotton or linen stretched canvases or canvas board, as these will offer a resistant surface for thick/heavy applications of paint. If you are looking to paint on paper, a paper designed specifically for acrylic painting would suit best. However, theoretically speaking you can still paint directly onto any heavyweight paper as acrylic paint is water based and will not “sink” like oil paints might. Acrylic paint can also be painted onto surfaces such as wood, plastic, metal or brick, just so long as the surface is primed or prepared where suitable.
- Q How much will a 400ml spray can cover?
- A
A 400ml can will cover approximately 2 sq metres
- Q How can I prevent the nozzle from blocking?
- A
In order to prevent the nozzle from blocking simply tip the can upside down and press down on the nozzle after using. This will cause the can to release empty air which will clear any excess from the nozzle.
- Q The nozzle for my can has become blocked over time. What can I do?
- A
Montana sell a range of individual nozzles should you need a replacement. You can see these here.
- Q What's the difference in white and transparent white spray paint
- A
Transparent White differs to White as it is more transparent and allows for better blending and mixing properties. So for example, if you are looking to add highlights to a painting, go for Transparent White. If you are looking to add an opaque application of white that covers other colours, use White.
- Q Please can you advise if this can also be used in small rooms - does it need extra ventilation?
- A
It is not advisable for these spray paints to be used in small rooms. It is recommended that the paints are used in a well-ventilated area, or out of doors, with a protective mask.
- Q I intend to spray paint my penny board, would this be suitable to use?
- A
This might chip off of plastic so we'd reccomend getting a primer or varnishing it once your done to make sure it lasts.
- Q I need a bright yellow matte/chalk paint to use on glass that I can distress once it's dried. Would this be suitable?
- A
This spray is ideal for making temporary markings. So yes, once it's dried, you can "distress" it. However, you can make it permanent afterwards by using a varnish.
- Q Hi. I want to spray some spelter figurines that are badly discoloured, I usually paint them by brush, would this spray paint be suitable. Thanks. Jim
- A
Yes, you can use the Montana Spray paints on spelter figurines.

You can spray directly but it may not have a smooth surface. Alternativley you can also use a universal or metal primer.
- Q Can i use montana GOLD spray paint onto shoes i want to recolour some?
Thank you
- A
The material the shoes are made from will make a big difference to how well this works. The paint should work on leather shoes that have a sturdy surface. If the surface is very smooth you might also find it helpful to use a primter spray, which will help the paint adhere to the surface.
- Q Hello, would this spray paint be suitable for spray painting a wicker chair? The chair would have occasional use but I need something that won't chip. Would this spray paint be suitable? If not, can you advise what would work?
Thank you!
- A
Spray paint is a great choice for painting wicker items. If you want to protect the chair from any chipping or weathering then I recommend using a spray varnish on top of the paint, which will help to protect it. We sell one made by Montana here. If you want to paint the chair in a lighter colour, or if the base colour is quite strong you might also find it helpful to use a primer before applying the colour. We also have a Montana Universal Primer Spray, which works on any surface, and this can be found here.
- Q I'm planning on designing some wellies for my wedding, would this spray paint be any good on rubber?
Thanks
- A
Montana works well on flexible surfaces, so it should apply well to wellies. For best results you might find it helpful to use a primer spray before applying the colour, Montana make a universal primer that would work well for this.
- Q Is this spray paint water soluble?
- A
These spray paints are not water soluble, due to their content.
- Q Which colours in your range are opaque? I want to spray some windows to stop the light coming in, preferably in a cream or white colour.

All colours aside from those with "Transparent" in their name are opaque
- Q Hi there,
I've got old glass cabinet, which I would like to revamp a bit by painting the glass, however I am looking for transparent effect. Is your spray paint suitable for my purpose?
Many thanks

I would choose one of the "Transparent" colours in this range if you're looking for a transparent effect.
- Q do you have a verdigree finish in the spray cans
- A
Dear Heather
The closet we have to the Verigree colour is from two of our spray paint suppliers Liquitex and Montana. With Liquitex it is Phthalocynine Green 7 and then with Montana colours there is Malachite and Dolphin where i would recommend to mix these two tones together.

- Q Can this paint over craft foam? I am planning on using it for a costume prop
- A
Dear Alyza, We would advice that you use liquitex spraypaint as this is not as solvent, montana has a tendency to melt through foam and so would be unreliable for you.

- Q I have been looking at spray painting on utube by artists from "spraypaintsecrets@gmail.com ". The artist uses Montana spray paints on poster boards. The finish is glossy and looks brilliant!
If I use it on metal, will I get the same finish or will I have to apply a clear finish to it?
Thanks
- A
Dear Jeff,
It depends on the colours that you require as some are more shinny than others, but we would recommend a gloss spray to go over them to maximise your effect.
Thank you for your query Cass Art

- A

Yes, this paint can adhere to most materials including metal. Please ensure you use the correct primer first for long lasting results.
- Q Can these be used on light bulbs?
- A
No, the acrylic paint will crack with the heat of the bulb, the best option for painting bulbs would be the Pebeo Vitrail range.
- Q Is there a minimum temperature at which this paint will not work?
- A
The ideal temperature to spray paint is between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius, for a smooth, even application. The spray paint will work in lower temperatures too to a certain extent as the lower pressure can promote the cap to clog. Humidity is also a factor that needs to be considered in lower temperatures.
