Q&A (5)
Q Hello, please will you tell how deep the 80x30cm canvas is? I am looking for one that is 2.5cm deep and canvas-wrapped. Many thanks. Kimberley

This canvas is 2.2cm deep whereas the Deep Edge Winsor & Newton Canvas is 3.8cm deep.

Q Why use cotton over linen?

Choosing to use a cotton canvas over a linen one will depend on what you are painting and how you prefer to use your paint. Depending on the weight of the cotton, these canvases can be just as robust as linen. Cotton canvas have more of a tooth and will have a rougher surface than linen as a result, which may work against painters working on small detailed works. They are however, a fantastic choice for abstract painters.

Q Do you offer a canvas stretching service?

Although we do not offer a canvas stretching service online, we do sell stretcher bars and canvas material by the metre in our Islington shop. Our friendly staff will be more than happy to talk you through the process of stretching your own canvas.

Q What medium can be applied to this surface?

Artists’ canvas is the primary surface for painting in oils, and it is also commonly used for acrylic painting. This resistant surface makes it suited to working on for various collage and mixed media works too. It is not advised to paint watercolour onto canvas without specifically priming the surface to do so.

Q How do I prime the surface of this canvas?

All of our canvases come already primed and ready for painting on.
