Q&A (11)
Q Do you sell refill quarter pans for this set?
A

Unfortunately we do not stock refill pans for our Cass Art brand Professional Watercolour Travel Pouch Set.

Q What surface do watercolours work best on?
A

You can paint watercolour onto a variety of different surfaces. However, you want to aim to use paper that weighs either 300gsm or more. For more information about what paper we sell for watercolour, click here.

Q What brush should I use to paint water colour?
A

You will need a soft and absorbent brush to paint watercolour. Sable brushes are typically used for this, however you can use a soft bristled synthetic brush as an alternative should you wish. Round brushes with short handles are the most common shaped brush used as these are an ideal shape and size for the fine detailing and small scale traditionally associated with watercolour painting. However, watercolour brushes come in various shapes and sizes, such as Flat, Filbert, Mop, Fan, Rigger, Sword Liner and Angled brushes which all offer different brush stroke styles and effects.

Q What are the benefits of using watercolour tube paint as oppose to using watercolour pans?
A

The choice to use tubes as oppose to pans is mostly down to personal preference. Watercolour tube paints offer better colour intensity than pans and are ideal for use when painting larger scale works and washes. When it comes to watercolour tube paints, a little bit of paint goes a very long way. This makes it easier to attain a higher level concentration of paint and water. They can also be easier to mix with other colours than pans.

Q What are the benefits of using watercolour pans as oppose to using watercolour tube paints?
A

The choice to use pans as oppose to tubes is mostly down to personal preference. Watercolour pans offer a quicker and easier experience when painting in watercolour, with less mess and less wasted paint than when using watercolour tube paints. The small size of the pans make them portable and easy to store which is particularly useful when painting on location.

Q Will this set accept standard 1/2 pans when those it comes with are used up? Also, I can't tell from the photo, but is the lid divided into 2 mixing sections? Thank you.
A

These are quarter pans, so half pans will be too large for the case. The lid isn't divided into sections, but of course can still be used for mixing.

Q What are the dimensions of this box? What are the dimensions of the 1/4 pans - I've never seen a 1/4 pan! Thanks.
A

The box is 12.5 x 4.5 x 1.25 cm. The outer case is 13 x 7.25cm. The 1/4 pans 1.25cm square.

Q Can the case be re-filled with tube colour or are the divisions open underneath? Can´t really tell form the pics ... Thanks!
A

The case is divided into sections for each pan, so by all means you can refill these with tube colour

Q Can we buy this tin empty so that we can put what paint we want into it?
A

Dear Tony Green,

Unfortunately we do not stock the tins empty as they work out more expensive for the customer than with the paint in them as we get deals with the supplier with the paints in, but they will not offer this without the paint.

Sorry to disappoint

Q Hi there, i love this set and would be perfect to have on me for hospital visits for my MS (that would help me with the time going a it faster1) How much would this cost to get shipped to me in Australia & how long? thanks take care!
A

Dear Bea

Unfortunately we do not ship outside of the United Kingdom but you could order a click and collect so you could get someone in the UK to pick it up and post to you, sorry but this is the only way around getting the product at the stage

Thank you for your query

Cass Art

Q Do you have pigment information for these paints? I notice the inner metal box and paints are identical to the Daler Rowney artist travel set. Are these made by the same company? If so they may have pigment info if you don't? Thanks.
A

30th June 2016 Reviewed by Jan Craig A beautiful little set of professional colour! I keep this in my bag along with a small watercolour sketchbook so it's easy to pick up and paint when the urge strikes! Don't worry about refilling either. Just fill back up with tube colour, allow to dry and you're off and running. Good quality brush completes the set.

10th February 2016 Reviewed by Suzi Lince I had been looking to replace an old bijou box and was thrilled to spot this as they are hard to come by. One star is dropped because the outer top enamel surface was damaged. Apart from that the set is near perfect for my needs to keep me painting wherever I go.....I have to carry a lot so hulking around a larger set unless I'm on a specific painting holiday is not practical for me. And though they are not strictly necessary I do love having 18 colours to play with! There is a blue I'm missing from my old set, I may take out the black and add this (either cerulean or manganese)but I can come close using a Viridian mix so I'll wait and see.
Quality and choice of colours seems excellent and I only use professional water colours. The flower and background I painted with it have a wonderful transparency and glow. It is also excellent that it comes with a carry case and can hold a slightly longer brush than the old tiny W&N bijou.
I have already kitted out my bag with another travel brush and either 5x7 or post card size pad.I have no excuses now not to have water colouring part of every day. Much more satisfying than checking Twitter or playing with my mobile when I have 15 mins or so to spare.
Overall I am very pleased with it and would highly recommend.

23rd December 2015 Reviewed by Sharon Bradley This is an excellent little portable paint box. The image online does not do it justice. It is actually smaller than my mobile phone case and the quarter pans are hardly any smaller than the normal half pan. I removed two colours to replace with favourites of my own. I squeezed the colour from a tube and allowed it to dry overnight. You cannot get replacement quarter pans but that is not a problem. The brush Is of a good quality and the actual metal case is sturdy. I thoroughly recommend this set for holidays and out walking or it would make an excellent gift for an artist.
