Description

     Limited time offer

Pro Arte’s Renaissance Squirrel Mop Brushes Series R are made from the finest-quality, incredibly soft hair, tied tightly together with a traditional three-knot "quill" binding.

  • Squirrel hair can hold a huge amount of colour, so it’s perfect for watercolourists who like to work on a large scale, or who favour bold strokes of colour.
  • However, squirrel mop brushes also have extremely fine points, allowing you to create tiny details, and it’s this versatility that makes them so popular with artists working en plein air – one brush can do the work of several, so there’s less fuss, less equipment to lug around and less juggling brushes.
  • As you’d expect from Pro Arte, this is a very high-quality brush at an excellent price.

The Pro Arte Renaissance Squirrel Mop Brush Series R comes in a range of sizes to suit all purposes.

Q&A (3)
Q My brush has misshapen over time. How can I rectify this?
A

If your brush has misshapen, you can do so by soaking in boiling water and allowing brush to reshape. Please keep in mind that if your brush is resting on its bristles, this will affect its shape so take care when soaking. Should you wish to retain the point of your brush, you can do so by dipping in gum Arabic and reshaping. Make sure you leave your brush to dry fully before using after applying gum Arabic, as the medium could potentially change the effect of the paint you are using.

Q What are the benefits to using a synthetic brush as oppose to a natural hair brush?
A

The most obvious advantage is that using a synthetic brush is kind to animals, but synthetic brushes also tend to be more durable and longer lasting than a natural hair brush. Furthermore, synthetic brushes do not expand in water and tips of brushes also stay finer for longer. This can prove helpful when applying paint for fine detailing.

Q What are the benefits to using a natural hair brush as oppose to a synthetic brush?
A

Using natural hair for the bristles of a brush as oppose to using synthetic materials is a more traditional practice. Natural hair brushes tend to carry and hold more colour than a synthetic brush. Sable hair brushes taper naturally, so when added to a brush creates a fine point. This is a quality that can advantage the application of watercolour paint and is not as easily obtained by synthetic brushes.

I'd recommend the brush for creative and adventurous artists who want to be faithful to traditional watercolout techniques but also wish to experiment. A very good enabling tool and lovely to use

12th January 2014 Reviewed by Ann Froshaug I use the mops (I bought 4 different sizes for my watercolour paintings.) The range of sizes enables me to work from absolute detail to swathing expressiveness. The fine points on each size allows a 'drawing' flexibility of line and the fullness of the brush holds lots of paint for full washes.Totally versatile and enabling!
