Description

Our Cass Art Sable Paint Brushes, like the rest of our own-brand range, brings you very high quality at an extremely good price.

  • You’ll find that they’re perfect for watercolours as their soft natural bristles can carry large amounts of water for long, consistent strokes of colour.
  • They have good spring and durability and the short handles mean that they’re ideal when you need to create fine detailing and intricate work.

Q&A (4)
Q What are the benefits to using a synthetic brush as oppose to a natural hair brush?
A

Using natural hair for the bristles of a brush as oppose to using synthetic materials is a more traditional practice. Natural hair brushes tend to carry and hold more colour than a synthetic brush. Sable hair brushes taper naturally, so when added to a brush creates a fine point. This is a quality that can advantage the application of watercolour paint and is not as easily obtained by synthetic brushes.

Q My brush has misshapen over time. How can I rectify this?
A

If your brush has misshapen, you can do so by soaking in boiling water and allowing brush to reshape. Please keep in mind that if your brush is resting on its bristles, this will affect its shape so take care when soaking. Should you wish to retain the point of your brush, you can do so by dipping in gum Arabic and reshaping. Make sure you leave your brush to dry fully before using after applying gum Arabic, as the medium could potentially change the effect of the paint you are using.

Q What can I use to clean sable brushes?
A

Sable brushes are typically used for watercolour, and can be cleaned easily with warm water. A sable brush should not be cleaned with harsh substances such as turpentine as this may cause the brush to degrade. You may be able to use a colourless and unscented PH neutral soap to clean your sable brush should you wish, although this is not necessary for cleaning watercolour paint from your brush.

16th December 2015 Reviewed by Stephen Oates I am a miniature sculptor and painter, I mainly use acrylic and water-colour paints as well as oils but to a lesser extent. TBH I have not used the brushes as yet as they are a Christmas gift. Though after a quick look the bristles look and feel firm and flexible with no fly away bristles and I am looking forward to using them.
