Description

Each Tombow Dual Brush Pen has two tips: a fine one that’s perfect for details and a flexible brush.

  • The brush is durable yet soft, and you can easily use it to create fine, medium or broad strokes.
  • It’s also ideal when you want to fill larger areas with colour.
  • The ink inside the pens won’t bleed, and is odourless and acid-free.
  • Since it’s water-based, you can blend the colours, just as you would with watercolour paint.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens are particularly popular with graphic artists and watercolourists, but you can use them for just about any kind of drawing.

This set contains 12 Tombow Dual Brush Pens in a good range of vibrant colours:

  • N15 Black
  • N75 Cool Grey 3

Q&A (5)
Q What are these pens used for?
A

Choosing one pen over another will depend on various factors such as the type of mark, surface, scale, type of ink and style of working. Felt tip pens are ideal for broad applications of colour and covering large areas. Depending on the scale you are working in, felt tip pens could also be used for sketching and writing.

Q What are the differences between the nibs?
A

Felt tip pen nibs come in many different shapes and sizes. The most commonly used is the bullet nib. The roundness of the nib means the stroke will be the same at all times regardless of the angle the pen is held. A brush nib provides brushed strokes of colour not unfamiliar to the effect of using a paint brush and allows for versatility in the kind of marks you can create. Similarly, the chisel nib can be used for a variety of different strokes. Its flat end can be used for curved, thick or thin lines and is particularly good for blocking large areas with colour.

Q Are these pens waterproof?
A

No. The ink used for these pens is water soluble and will bleed if used with water.

Q What is the opacity of the ink?
A

This pen has a transparent ink, ideal for blending and overlaying colour.

Q What is the best type of paper to use with these pens?
A

These pens would work really well with the Cass Art Marker Pad, which is available in two sizes. You can view this product here.

30th April 2015 Reviewed by E Nozawa Use it like charged brush. The colour is undiluted like pre-mixed watercolour in bottles, so 'buildup' technique is not quite easily achieved.

Suitable for all watercolourists. Ideal for outdoor sketching.
Good quality watercolour (just used last week (mid-April '15) so 'colour-fastness' is yet to be seen in few years time). The 'brush-tip' could be slightly more softer. All in all not quite the same as using proper 'watercolour and brush'.

14th January 2014 Reviewed by Roi Perez I draw a lot of characters for childrens books and although I think the price of these is extortionate (the reason I gave 4 stars) they are still worth the money, the build quality makes them a pleasure to use and are leagues ahead from your average "felt tips pens" ...

7th October 2013 Reviewed by Glenda Allister I bought these as a present for my grandson, but I am already borrowing them! So maybe I will be ordering my own. Lovely clean bright colours and beautiful flow of ink. Would recommend to children and adults who are into drawing/sketching - who could resist?
