PORTRAIT PAINTING IN OILS

In this workshop you will be working with Kathy to create a beautiful portrait using oil painting with a direct technique. Your instructor will take you through the creation of a portrait in oil paint in a direct style. You will learn through exercises and examples and come away with a painted portrait of your own based on the provided example, or your own.
Over the course of the 4 hours, you will be walked through the process of using oil paints, you will learn how to block in a head in a way that preserves proportion and likeness and be shown ways to mix and apply colours.
Katherine Dereli is an artist working around Lancashire and Liverpool. She's been running classes in Liverpool teaching representational painting and drawing for more than a decade. She has appeared on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year in 2022 and frequently exhibits around Liverpool. kdereli.net

Materials provided: oil paint - basic selection, solvent, palette paper, kitchen roll, paper + pencils for exercises
