Liquitex Mediums in Action

by Cass Art Staff

We're utterly transfixed by these videos of Liquitex Mediums in action, from sweeping textures with black lava to getting psychedelic with paint pouring. So sit back and let the colours “flow-aid” over you and see what you can do with these magical-mediums yourself:

New Iridescent Liquitex Medium

Our newest addition to the Liquitex mediums range is the Iridescent Pouring Medium. Ideal for soft body and ink acrylics for paint pouring this medium offers a subtle shimmer along with the same working properties of the regular Liquitex Pouring Medium. Gives a high gloss, smooth, craze free finish.

Iridescent Pouring

For best pours, start with a tablespoon of Soft Body colour to a cup of Pouring Medium (around 5% colour to 95% medium) and adapt to suit your technique. To use with Acrylic Ink or Heavy Body Acrylic, adjust ratio to get your desired consistency. Stir gently to avoid creating foam - if bubbles appear, leave it to sit while the bubbles rise and disappear. Use as a regular fluid medium extender - mix as much as you like into acrylic colour to create the volume and viscosity you want.

Colander Pouring Technique

Using the same ratio of medium to paint as described above, slowly pour the paint one colour at a time into the centre of the colander. Pour only enough for the centre to be covered and give it a chance to start dripping through the colander before pouring the next colour on top of it. Choose several of your favourite colours and don’t worry about how they look side by side because there is no way to predict how they will combine in the artwork and that is the beauty of the process.

Flip Pouring Technique

In this technique the surface you want the paint applied to is placed face down on the cup, then "flipped" so the cup is upside down on the canvas. The cup is then lifted to let the paint flow out in a puddle. After that, the canvas is tilted until the paint has covered the entire surface.
