KINTSUGI (GOLD JOINERY)
9th Jun 2024
Kintsugi (Japanese: 金継ぎ, lit. 'golden joinery'), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
In this short 2 hour class you will learn the modern or "quick" kintsugi method using epoxy glue and metal powder. The tutor will guide you through each step of the kintsugi process. Practice mindfulness and embrace the philosophy of wabi-sabi, cultivating a mindset that appreciates the beauty in flaws and transience. Unleash your creativity by turning broken pieces into unique works of art, reflecting your personal journey. Explore the history and philosophy behind kintsugi, understanding its deeper meaning and relevance in today’s world.
Workshop tutor Jurga started her official art journey at the Art Academy in Vilnius, Lithuania, where she gained a Masters of Art degree. After that she worked in the advertising industry as Creative director, also studying at the Sumi-e (Japanese ink painting and calligraphy) school of D.Doksaite. Jurga moved to London in 2004, where she now lives, creates, works and teaches (Watercolour, sumi-e and kintsugi).
