GELLI PLATE PRINTING: VINTAGE BOTANICAL PRINTS

GELLI PLATE PRINTING: VINTAGE BOTANICAL PRINTS

31st Aug 2024

Create Vintage Botanical Prints with Laser-Cut Stencils & Local Plants Inspired by Sepia & Cyanotype Tones. This hands-on printmaking workshop invites participants to explore the creative process of Gelli plate printing through a vintage botanical lens. Perfect for beginners and seasoned creatives alike, the session focuses on building rich, textured prints using unconventional tools, laser-cut stencils, and natural materials.
Attendees will use botanical plants sourced from the local park, combined with custom-designed laser-cut frames and stencil templates, to create prints with the nostalgic feel of sepia-toned photographs and cyanotype imagery. Through guided exploration, participants will experiment with earth-tone colour palettes, layering techniques, and creative mark-making.

Participants Will Learn To:

  • Understand the basics of Gelli plate printing using alternative tools and techniques
  • Pull prints directly from real botanical materials
  • Incorporate laser-cut botanical stencils and vintage-style frame designs
  • Mix natural pigments to recreate a sepia or cyanotype effect
  • Produce a collection of unique, vintage-style prints to take home
