INTRODUCTION TO KINTSUGI

INTRODUCTION TO KINTSUGI

6th Jul 2024

Learn the Japanese art of kintsugi repair for broken ceramics and spend a relaxed few hours immersed in the processes, tools and materials of this traditional craft. You will be supported to complete a repair using epoxy, coated with traditional natural Japanese Urushi (tree sap) lacquer and finished to a stunning gold-hued shine with fine brass powder. You can either bring a piece to work on (see Clara’s workshop page for the kind of items and breaks that are manageable in this beginner’s workshop) or choose from a selection of vintage items.

Workshop tutor, Clara is a kintsugi artist (taking commissions) & teacher based in Stroud. She has practised kintsugi for over ten years, learning her trade from respected traditional practitioners: Iku Nishikawa-sensei in Oxford (UK) and David Pike sensei in Nara, Japan.
