22nd Jun 2023

This Pigment Stick demonstration offers a relaxed environment where participants can see and experience Pigment Sticks. Topics covered include: how R&F Pigment Sticks® allow artists to explore traditional and alternative methods of painting with oil by allowing them to draw or paint directly onto a surface with immediacy and fluidity; what Pigment Sticks are; health and safety when working with Pigment Sticks; R&F Blending Medium vs. Blending Medium with Drier; appropriate supports and tools; transparent vs. opaque Pigment Sticks; building a surface, monoprinting, mark making; and additional techniques.

Julia Burton is a painter living and working in London. She studied textile design at Chelsea College of Art. Having specialised in print, Julia enjoys colour, texture and form. Exploring collage and mixed media, a vivid colour palette and a curious imagination, Julia paints abstract narratives. She finds inspiration in the interplay of her subconscious and the canvas’ surface. On the canvas, she disinters dreams and their relationships with everyday life, touching on both the real and the surreal. Julia’s process of creating a painting can be a lengthy and arduous journey, slowly teasing out the story, pulling some elements forward, pushing others back, and tracing each painting’s evolution.
