For Emma Prempeh, painting is a process of layering — visually, emotionally, and materially. Working primarily in oil and glaze on canvas and linen, her work explores memory, identity, and the passing of time. We visited her South London studio to capture a glimpse of that process in motion — from her choice of materials to the pace and presence of her working rhythm.
In this short film, Emma shares how her Trinidadian and Ghanaian heritage informs her approach, how she draws from family archives, and why slowing down is essential to the work.
