Emma Prempeh is a British artist with Ghanaian and Vincentian heritage based in London. Her work explores memory, identity and the passing of time. Working mainly with oil and incorporating materials such as gold leaf and household fabrics, her paintings hold a dreamlike quality – layering personal histories with cultural references that speak to wider collective experience.

A graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London, and winner of the 2019 Ingram Prize, Emma has quickly established herself as a distinctive voice in contemporary figurative painting. We had the pleasure of visiting Emma in her studio in South London to learn more about her incredible practice, relationship with materials and studio habits. Enjoy!
