‘Shadows and Projections’ brings together recent paintings, drawings and photographs by Nicholas Middleton. Fundamental to the works in the exhibition is an exploration of the status of the image: produced, reproduced, layered, cut, cropped and mediated through the camera, through painting, drawing and text– and how images live in our imaginations and histories, and their relationship to our experience of the world.
 
Nicholas Middleton is an artist based in London with a background in painting and print, and interests in photography, film and video. His work probes the status of the image across mediums and their respective histories, and as a reflection of the world experienced at a remove. He studied printmaking at Winchester School of Art and recently completed a practice-based PhD at the Royal College of Art. He has exhibited widely in the UK and has been a prizewinner at the John Moores Painting Prize.
 
In 2025, Nicholas won the Solo Show Award, supported by Cass Art, at the RWS Open exhibition.
