ABOUT THE STORE

Tucked behind the National Gallery and a few steps from the National Portrait Gallery, our Charing Cross shop has been serving artists for over 115 years. It sits at the centre of a long-standing network of galleries and studios, just a short walk from the Mall Galleries and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and was the first store acquired by founder Mark Cass in 1984.

Long before that, T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) bought first his ink here — part of the shop’s ongoing link to working artists. The space remains focused on function: easy to move through, straightforward to browse, and set up so you can get straight to the materials you need.

Our shop is wheelchair accessible.

Click & Collect to this store is available.

“This has been an art shop for over 130 years — a space with real weight to it, where artists come for the materials they trust and get straight back to work. That sense of purpose still shapes how the store runs today.”
