EXHIBITION: WE ARE OUR MEMORIES
4th May 2025
Trish Hudson-Moses’ work has, for many years, been seeking ways to express memory, its gradual renewal and deterioration. She became interested in how both genetic and familial memory can be nurtured and held within Woman and the Matriarchal lineage; a connection which weaves through all the history and myths of every culture, carrying our unique DNA traits.
Reading and research about DNA brought up the fascinating information of Foetal Micro-Chimerism, involving the transference of foetal cells which cross the blood/brain barrier and live on in the maternal brain. Does she have the substance of her children within her still?
Over time, the tearing of cloth, binding and wrapping, staining with rust, weaving open space or solid, the use of the circle, have all become symbolic for Trish. A language of construction and materials, which, for her, represents the concepts she wishes to express. The woven forms which arise become the art which appears in this exhibition.
Trish Hudson-Moses won the Cass Art MFA Graduate Exhibition Award for her degree show at Newcastle University in 2025.
