'David Hockney: Drawing From Life' (2nd Nov-21st Jan) explores the artist’s work over the last six decades through his intimate portraits of five sitters: his mother, Celia Birtwell, Gregory Evans, Maurice Payne and David himself.

His familiarity with the sitters enables him to work with a range of mediums and styles, from pencil, pen and ink and crayon, to photographic collage and the iPad. The exhibition also debuts a selection of over thirty new portraits. Painted from life they depict friends and visitors to the artist’s Normandy studio between 2021 and 2022.

These pencils contain superior pigments of unsurpassed lightfastness and colour brilliance. The oil base makes them suitable for work a wide variety of surfaces and materials, which include all forms of paper, card or even fabrics and selected forms of plastic. Polychromos leads can be sharpened to a very fine point allowing them to be used on fine detail as well as cover large areas with colour.

1. This Prize Draw is open to residents of the UK aged 18 or over, except for employees of the National Portrait Gallery, Cass Art, their families, agencies or anyone else associated with the administration of this competition.
2. There is no purchase necessary to enter the prize draw.
3. The prize is not transferable and there is no cash alternative available.
4. Only one entry per person is permitted.
5. The prize is subject to availability, dates may be subject to change and products may vary. There is no travel or accommodation provided. The prize does not include any other expenses.
6. There is one prize of a National Portrait Gallery ‘Member & Guest’ membership for one year (value from £85), an NPG goodie bag with branded merchandise, and a Faber-Castell Polychromos Artist Pencil Tin Set of 60 (RRP £145.99).
7. The membership is provided by The National Portrait Gallery. Upon accepting the prize, the winner’s details will be shared with The National Portrait Gallery for administration purposes only.

9. The Faber-Castell Polychromos Artist Pencil set of 60 Assorted Colours is provided by Cass Art. Cass Art reserves the right to offer a similar prize of equal value if a prize is unavailable. The set will be sent directly to the winner’s UK address within 30 days of accepting the prize.
10. The Prize Draw opens Sunday 29th October 2023 and closes at 23:59:59 on Sunday 3rd December 2023.
11. The winner will be the first valid entry drawn at random from all entries received. The winner will be contacted by Friday 8th December 2023 via the email address provided on the entry form.
12. The winner must claim their prize within 48 hours. In the event that the winner does not claim their prize within this period, another winner will be drawn at random.
13. The winner will be given details of how to redeem their prize via the email address or telephone number provided on the entry form.
