Description

The Pro Arte Acrylix One Stroke Brush Series 204 comes with Pro Arte’s special Acrylix bristles, developed as a synthetic alternative to hog hair.

  • The bristles are firm yet flexible, with a silky texture which they’ll retain even after lots of use.
  • They’re extremely durable – you can leave them standing in water without damaging them.
  • They’re a delight to paint with, last for ages and are also less expensive than hog hair, so it’s easy to see why they’re so popular with artists working in acrylics and oils.
  • The Pro Arte Acrylix One Stroke Brush Series 204 is a flat brush which gives you precise, sharp lines for one stroke work and lettering.

It comes in a range of sizes to suit all purposes.

Q&A (4)
Q What are the benefits to using a synthetic brush as oppose to a natural hair brush?
A

The most obvious advantage is that using a synthetic brush is kind to animals, but synthetic brushes also tend to be more durable and longer lasting than a natural hair brush. Furthermore, synthetic brushes do not expand in water and tips of brushes also stay finer for longer. This can prove helpful when applying paint for fine detailing.

Q My brush has misshapen over time. How can I rectify this?
A

If your brush has misshapen, you can soak the tip of your brush in hot water, shape with your fingers and dry. Should you wish to retain the point of your brush, you can do so by dipping in gum Arabic and reshaping. Make sure you leave your brush to dry fully before using after applying gum Arabic, as the medium could potentially change the effect of the paint you are using.

Q What are the benefits to using a natural hair brush as oppose to a synthetic brush?
A

Using natural hair for the bristles of a brush as oppose to using synthetic materials is a more traditional practice. Natural hair brushes tend to carry and hold more colour than a synthetic brush.

Q What can I use to clean these brushes?
A

This all depends on the kind of paint used. Synthetic bristles are quite robust and can be used with lots of different cleaning materials such as turpentine or solvent based paint brush cleaners. However, avoid using acetone based cleaners on synthetic brushes as this may affect the brushes longevity.

10th August 2018 Reviewed by Susan Hoggart I am replacing an old set of these brushes which have lasted me over seven years.
(I paint for about about ten hours a week and they have lasted well with no issues.)
I am replacing like for like - I do not feel the need to investigate any other brand or type of brush. A new set of these will be just fine.
CassArt have very competitive prices and all the sizes that I require.

29th April 2018 Reviewed by Thomas Jarratt I use these brushes for fairly detailed work on oil paintings. I like the sharp, chisel ends and the good body of paint I can load into the brush as desired.
When, eventually the bristles spay a little I can cut them off at the base and still have slightly thinner but crisp brush for a few more weeks.
All in all a very good product that suits my needs precisely.
I don't do recommending because we are all so individual and need to discover our own way.

20th February 2018 Reviewed by Peter Pilgrim I use these brushes for acrylic painting on canvas and watercolour paper. I cannot fault this brand. Brushes retain their shape, have a good spring in the bristles, hold a good amount of paint and last a long time if looked after.

22nd July 2017 Reviewed by Peter Pilgrim This is one of the better brushes for acrylic paint. It holds a good amount and spreads heavy body paint evenly and without brush strokes showing. I need flat colour and this brush helps.
My only criticism is that the smallest round head brushes available are not fine tipped enough.

24th November 2013 Reviewed by Phyllis MAHON Good quality. Bought two of these in 1/2 inch size as the price was excellent...I have a 1 inch version & it's been great. I normally use the sable blend by W&N but as I am now painting more on canvas it'll be interesting to see how these last. I do think the sable blend hold more paint but using them on canvas is too wearing.
