- 1. The Promoter
- The promoter is: Art-Line Limited trading as Cass Art, with its registered office at 66-67 Colebrooke Row, Islington, London, United Kingdom, N1 8AB (“Promoter”)
- 2. The competition
- 2.1 The title of the competition is The Cass Art Prize 2024.
- 2.2 The competition aims to champion contemporary art from across the UK and Ireland, with a prize awarded to the overall winner of the competition and additional prizes being awarded to runners up, as set out in section 5 below. Winning artworks will be selected by a respected panel of guest judges with extensive knowledge and experience across the art industry.
- 3. How to enter
- 3.1 The competition will run from 9am on 12 March 2024 (the "Opening Date") to 12pm on 21st May 2024 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.
- 3.2 Internet access is required to enter the competition.
- 3.3 To enter the competition, entrants will need to create a free account at https://zealous.co or log in to their existing account, complete the application form, pay the entry fee and submit a digital image of their artwork by the Closing Date.
- 3.4 Entrants may submit no more than 3 entries. Entry fees are £10 for 1 entry, £16 for 2 entries and £22 for 3 entries. Students and art educators get £2 off these fees i.e. £8 for 1 entry, £14 for 2 entries and £20 for 3 entries. Entry fees are payable using Stripe via Zealous.
- 3.5 Entry fees are non-refundable, but you may notify the Promoter if you wish to withdraw an artwork from the competition.
- 3.6 All competition entries must be received by the Promoter via https://www.zealous.co/thecassartprize/creative-opportunities/ by no later than 12pm on the Closing Date. No other forms of entry will be accepted. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.
- 3.7 Competition entries must be submitted in the appropriate category for the relevant entrant. There are four categories:
- (a) students should enter The Students Award;
- (b) art educators should enter The Art Educators Award;
- (c) employees of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies (“Cass Art Group”) should enter The Cass Art Group Staff Award; and
- (d) all entrants who do not fall into the above categories should enter the Main Prize Award.
- 3.8 Proof of academic status may be required by the Promoter.
- 3.9 Entrants may not submit their artworks in more than one category. However:
- (a) entries for The Students Award and Art Educators Award will automatically be entered for the Main Prize Award; and
- (b) entries for all categories other than The Cass Art Group Staff Award will be considered for additional prizes as set out in section 7.1 (d) to (k) below.
- 3.10 The Promoter will not accept:
- (a) responsibility for competition entries that are lost, damaged or delayed in transmission regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
- (b) proof of transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.
- 3.11 By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

- 4. Eligibility and Artworks Overview
- 4.1 The competition is open to artists of all abilities resident in the UK & the Republic of Ireland aged 18 years or over, except:
- (a) subject to section 4.2 below, employees of the Cass Art Group;
- (b) employees of agents or suppliers of the Promotor or its holding or subsidiary companies, including The Other Art Fair (Other Art Fairs Limited) , Zealous (Zealous Solutions Ltd), Copeland Gallery (Copeland Park & Bussey Building), Contemporary Art Academy Limited, Michael Harding Art Formulas Limited, Colart International Limited, Jakar International Limited, Daler-Rowney Limited or any of the Guest Judge Panel, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration;
- (c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.
- 4.2 Employees of Cass Art Group may enter The Cass Art Group Staff Award only. Artworks submitted by employees of the Cass Art Group will only be considered for this category and will not be eligible for any other prize.
- 4.3 In entering the competition, each entrant:
- (a) accepts that, if they are selected to proceed to the exhibition stage, their selected artworks must be available and be delivered for physical exhibition and display as part of the exhibition Longlist;
- (b) confirms that they are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize they may win. The Promoter may require an entrant to provide proof that they are eligible to enter the competition.
- 4.4 The competition accepts all forms of 2D and 3D artworks made using analogue materials. Photography, videography, sound art, architectural designs, NFTs, fully digital and AI artworks are not accepted. The image submitted via Zealous must accurately portray the submitted artwork.
- 4.5 Artworks must have been completed after 1 March 2021. Artworks which have previously won prizes or awards may not be entered into the competition.
- 4.6 Images submitted via Zealous must be in Jpeg, Jpg or png format.
- 4.7 All works entered must be the original work of the entrant and free of any copyright issues. Where work is based on reference imagery, artists must have permission from the original creator who holds the Intellectual Property Rights or be working under a creative commons agreement (e.g. references purchased from an image library).
- 4.8 Artworks must not be derogatory, offensive, threatening, defamatory, disparaging or contain any content that is inappropriate, indecent, profane, tortuous, slanderous, discriminatory in any way, or that promotes hatred or harm against any group or person. The Promoter reserves the right to remove any artworks deemed as such (in the Promoter’s absolute discretion) from the competition and no refund of entry fees will be given.
- 4.9 The Promoter will not accept competition entries that are:
- (a) automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence (including but not limited to chatbots such as ChatGPT or similar software applications);
- (b) completed by third parties or in bulk;
- (c) have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with following submission;
- (d) photocopies and not originals; or
- (e) obviously unfinished or incomplete.
- 4.10 The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify an entrant:
- (a) in the event they tamper or intervene with the operation of the competition; and/or
- (b) if their conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.
- 4.11 The competition entries will be judged by a panel of seven judges (the “Guest Judge Panel”). A list of names of the judges can be viewed at https://www.cassart.co.uk/thecassartprize.co.uk. Robert Diament shall act as the Independent Judge. The entrant acknowledges and agrees that the members of the Guest Judge Panel may change at any time.
- 4.12 In the event that the Guest Judge Panel cannot agree on any matter, the Independent Judge shall have the casting vote.
- 4.13 The decision of the Guest Judge Panel is final, its deliberations are confidential, no feedback will be provided and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
- 4.14 Artwork Guidelines and Criteria and details of the Judging Process are set out at https://www.cassart.co.uk/thecassartprize-faqs. The People’s Choice Award will be determined by voting of visitors at the The Cass Art Prize 2024 exhibition.
- 5. Exhibition dates and attendance
- 5.1 The Guest Judge Panel will select entrants to exhibit their artworks at The Cass Art Prize 2024 exhibition. Entrants will be selected in the absolute discretion of the Guest Judge Panel. The artworks exhibited must be the same work previously submitted via Zealous, as selected by the Guest Judge Panel. Artworks must remain displayed for the duration of the exhibition.
- 5.2 Entrants longlisted to exhibit will be notified between 9th – 11th July 2024 and will be invited to exhibit in The Cass Art Prize 2024 exhibition at Copeland Gallery, Unit 9, Copeland Park, 133 Copeland Rd, London SE15 3SN. A list of longlisted entries will be published at https://www.cassart.co.uk/thecassartprize on 9th July 2024.
- 5.3 The Private View and Prize Giving will take place in the evening on Thursday 14th November 2024 (“Announcement Date”) and the exhibition will run from Friday 8th to Saturday 16th November 2024 inclusive. Entrants shortlisted for prizes will be notified between 9th – 11th July 2024 and are expected to attend the Prize Giving on the Announcement Date. A list of shortlisted entries will be published at https://www.cassart.co.uk/thecassartprize on 9th July 2024.
- 6. Shipping and handling of artwork for exhibition
- 6.1 The entrant is responsible for arranging transport of their artwork both to the storage facility ahead of the exhibition and either directly from the exhibition or storage facility post exhibition. Any courier or delivery company costs incurred are the responsibility of the entrant.
- 6.2 The entrant is responsible for safely and securely packaging their artwork in such a manner that it is protected whilst in transit. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any damage to artwork which occurs in transit on its way to or from the Promoter’s storage facility or exhibition venue, unless caused by its negligence.
- 6.3 The entrant is responsible for arranging insurance which covers their artwork in transit to and from the storage facility, whilst at the storage facility, in transit to and from the exhibition and throughout the duration of the exhibition.
- 6.4 Artworks will be handled with due care, however, the Promoter cannot accept responsibility for any damage incurred to artworks during the exhibition, unless caused by its negligence.
- 7. Prizes and Awards
- 7.1 The Cass Art Prize 2024 competition prizes are as follows:
- (a) Main Prize Award: prize of £10,000 cash sponsored by the Promoter plus a stand at The Other Art Fair in March 2025 sponsored by Other Art Fairs Limited (one prize available);
- (b) The Students Award: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by the Promoter (one prize available);
- (c) The Art Educators Award: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by the Promoter (one prize available);
- (d) The Contemporary Art Academy Development Award: prize of £900 of Contemporary Art Academy online courses sponsored by the Contemporary Art Academy Limited and £100 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by the Promoter (one prize available);
- (e) The Michael Harding Award for Oil Painting: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by Michael Harding Art Formulas Limited (one prize available);
- (f) The Winsor & Newton Award for Watercolour: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by Winsor & Newton (one prize available);
- (g) The Liquitex Award for Acrylic: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by Liquitex (one prize available);
- (h) The Caran d’Ache Award for Drawing & Sketching: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by Jakar International Limited (one prize available);
- (i) The DAS Award for 3D Artwork: prize of £500 cash sponsored by Daler-Rowney Limited (one prize available);
- (j) The Canson Award for Mixed Media & Printmaking: prize of £500 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by Daler-Rowney Limited (one prize available);
- (k) The People’s Choice Award: £1,000 online digital voucher for art supplies sponsored by the Promoter (one prize available);
- (l) The Cass Art Group Staff Award: £1,000 cash and a paid day off work sponsored by the Promoter (one prize available).
- 7.2 Main Prize: In addition to the £10,000 cash prize, the Main Prize includes the opportunity for the winner (“Main Winner”) to exhibit their artwork at The Other Art Fair in London in March 2025. The Main Winner will be offered a 5LM stand at The Other Art Fair worth £1,890, with The Other Art Fair being responsible for walling and lighting production costs in relation to the stand. The Main Winner will be responsible for:
- (a) presenting their artworks and managing the stand onsite at The Other Art Fair;
- (b) providing certain of their artworks for sale in the stand and selling such artworks onsite via the central payment system provided by The Other Art Fair. In this respect, the Main Winner acknowledges and agrees that The Other Art Fair will take 18% commission (plus VAT) on each sale and the Main Winner will be paid the net sale proceeds within 30 calendar days after the event closes on its final day;
- (c) the transportation of their artworks to and from the venue;
- (d) for installation of their artworks at the designated stand at the venue;
- (e) for prompt removal of artworks from the venue at the end of the event.
- Following the Announcement Date, the Main Winner’s contact details will be passed to The Other Art Fair to make arrangements for the event.
- 7.3 The Contemporary Art Academy Development Award: Contemporary Art Academy is delighted to offer three free online courses to the winner of the Development Award. The winner may select any three courses from the Contemporary Art Academy programme which can be found at https://contemporaryartacademy.com/. Courses may be booked in the name of or transferred to individual(s) other than the relevant winner. Courses must be booked (but not necessarily taken) before 31 December 2025. Following the Announcement Date, the contact details of the winner of the Development Award will be passed on to Contemporary Art Academy to make arrangements for the courses.
- 7.4 Art supplies: Where a prize includes art supplies, an online digital voucher will be issued by the Promoter within 30 days of the Announcement Date. Unless stated otherwise in the terms and conditions applicable to the relevant voucher, vouchers are only redeemable at the Promoter’s online store.
- 7.5 Cash prizes: Where a prize includes a cash payment, the relevant sponsor will make payment by BACS to the winning entrant within 30 days of the Announcement Date. The winning entrant will need to provide their bank details for this purpose.
- 7.6 Subject to section 7.3, prizes are non-negotiable and non-transferable. No substitution or cash equivalent of prizes is permitted. The prize may not be claimed by a third party on an entrant’s behalf.
- 7.7 The Promoter will contact:
- (a) longlisted entrants and shortlisted entrants in accordance with the dates set out in section 5; and
- (b) prize winners personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, in each case using the telephone number or email address provided with the competition entry.
- 7.8 The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact prize winners. If a prize winner cannot be contacted, or has not claimed their prize within fourteen days of the Announcement Date or rejects their prize, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to the next entrant selected by the Guest Judge Panel from entries that were received before the Closing Date.
- 7.9 The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if a prize winner is not able to take up the prize.
- 7.10 The Promoter must either publish or make available information that indicates that valid prize awards took place. To comply with this obligation the Promoter will publish the surname and county of all prize winners and their winning entries at https://www.cassart.co.uk/thecassartprize within ten days of the Announcement Date.
- 7.11 If you object to any or all of your surname, county and winning entry being published or made available, please contact the Promoter by emailing cassartprize@cassart.co.uk. In such circumstances, the Promoter must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.
- 8. Publicity
- 8.1 By participating in the competition, each entrant grants the Promoter permission to use their name, artwork, likeness and/or comments for publicity purposes without payment or additional consideration, except where prohibited by law.
- 8.2 The Promoter recognises that the copyright in all works created by each entrant remains with that entrant. Without limiting clause 8.1, each entrant agrees that the Promoter may, in its sole discretion, make each artwork entered in the competition available on its website https://www.cassart.co.uk, on digital platforms of the Cass Art Group and in other media in connection with the promotion of and publicity for the competition, including future iterations of the competition. Each entrant grants the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty free licence to use, display and publish the intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials for purposes solely connected with the competition including future iterations of the competition.
- 9. Refunds & Reimbursements
- 9.1 Entrants may withdraw their entry from the competition at any stage by contacting cassartprize@cassart.co.uk, however there are no refunds on entry fees.
- 9.2 All current students at University of the Arts London (UAL) are entitled to claim reimbursement for the entry fee for The Cass Art Prize 2024, through Arts Students' Union (Arts SU). This applies to applicants entering singular and multiple works into The Students Award in The Cass Art Prize 2024. This offer is valid from 12th March 2024 to 21st May 2024 on a first-come, first-served basis, although this offer can be withdrawn at any time by Arts SU without prior warning. To redeem your reimbursement, proof of student status (UAL student ID number) along with proof of entry to The Cass Art Prize 2024 must be emailed to The Arts Programme Manager, Arts SU at artsprogramme@su.arts.ac.uk by 12pm/midday, Friday 31st May 2024.
- 10. Liability
- 10.1 Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. An entrant’s statutory rights are not affected.
- 10.2 The Promoter and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents disclaim any liability for any breach of copyright made by an artist’s submission, accidental, unintentional or otherwise.
- 11. Data protection
- 11.1 The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out in the Promoter’s Privacy Policy at https://www.cassart.co.uk/privacy-and-cookies-policy/. See also condition 7.10 and condition 7.11, with regard to the announcement of winners.
- 12. General
- 12.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, exclude you from participating in the competition.
- 12.2 The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so. The Promoter reserves the right to extend the submissions period for the competition where unavoidable circumstances beyond its control deem it necessary.
- 12.3 These terms and conditions are governed by English law. If any entrants to this promotion wish to take court proceedings, then they must do this within the courts in the United Kingdom.
