Description

The Pro Arte Sterling Acrylix Brush Filbert Series 201 comes with Pro Arte’s special Acrylix bristles, developed as a synthetic alternative to hog hair.

  • The bristles are firm yet flexible, with a silky texture which they’ll retain even after lots of use.
  • They’re extremely durable – you can leave them standing in water without damaging them – and the translucent white bristles make it easy to judge the colour of your paint.
  • They’re a delight to paint with, last for ages and are also less expensive than hog hair, so it’s easy to see why they’re so popular with artists working in acrylics and oils.
  • This Filbert version of the Pro Arte Sterling Acrylix Brush Series 201 has an oval shape which makes it particularly well suited to blending colours.

The Pro Arte Sterling Acrylix Brush Filbert Series 201 comes in a range of sizes to suit all purposes.

Q&A (4)
Q What are the benefits to using a synthetic brush as oppose to a natural hair brush?
A

The most obvious advantage is that using a synthetic brush is kind to animals, but synthetic brushes also tend to be more durable and longer lasting than a natural hair brush. Furthermore, synthetic brushes do not expand in water and tips of brushes also stay finer for longer. This can prove helpful when applying paint for fine detailing.

Q My brush has misshapen over time. How can I rectify this?
A

If your brush has misshapen, you can do so by soaking in boiling water and allowing brush to reshape. Please keep in mind that if your brush is resting on its bristles, this will affect its shape so take care when soaking. Should you wish to retain the point of your brush, you can do so by dipping in gum Arabic and reshaping. Make sure you leave your brush to dry fully before using after applying gum Arabic, as the medium could potentially change the effect of the paint you are using.

Q What are the benefits to using a natural hair brush as oppose to a synthetic brush?
A

Using natural hair for the bristles of a brush as oppose to using synthetic materials is a more traditional practice. Natural hair brushes tend to carry and hold more colour than a synthetic brush. Sable hair brushes taper naturally, so when added to a brush creates a fine point. This is a quality that can advantage the application of watercolour paint and is not as easily obtained by synthetic brushes.

Q What can I use to clean these brushes?
A

This all depends on the kind of paint used. Synthetic bristles are quite robust and can be used with lots of different cleaning materials such as turpentine or solvent based paint brush cleaners. However, avoid using acetone based cleaners on synthetic brushes as this may affect the brushes longevity.
