Pro Arte

Founded by artist Roy Thompson in 1973, Pro Arte is the UK’s leading brushmaker. In its 40 years, it has been responsible for many of the great advances in the manufacture of synthetic brushes, often in collaboration with practising artists. While it offers both Chinese Hog brushes for oil and high-quality Renaissance sable brushes for watercolours, it has expanded the use and quality of less expensive alternatives. In the 80s, it produced the Prolene brush for watercolours, using a new polyester filament, and followed this with the Acrylix brush for acrylic colours, made with Taklon, and the Conoisseur, which mixes synthetic and natural hairs for watercolours.
