Exhibition: Winterlands

Arlene Sharp and Dhama Thanigasapapathy base their respective practices on the natural environment; sketching, photographing and exploring while immersed in the changing landscape. Both artists gradually evolve their work through multiple layers into semi-abstract paintings that still retain convincing details of the places they inhabit.
From icy Arctic glaciers to the rugged snow-covered Yorkshire Dales, ‘Winterlands’ showcases recent paintings inspired by harsh climate, snow and ice. These works show how environmental forces can shape and alter the landscape.
Arlene Sharp graduated with a BA (Hons) Painting (1st) from the Open College of the Arts in 2023 and was nominated for the New Blood Emerging Art Prize. Dhama Thanigasapapathy graduated in 2023 with a first-class BA (Hons) Painting from the Open College of the Arts, also winning the prestigious 2023 Freelands Painting Prize. Her work blends interests in science, science fiction, psychology, futurism and her life-long fascination with the awesome power and chaotic beauty of extreme climate. dhamat.com
