Botanical Gelli Plate Printing
7th Apr 2026
Create Vintage Botanical Prints with Laser-Cut Stencils & Local Plants Inspired by Sepia & Cyanotype Tones
This hands-on printmaking workshop, led by Vicki from VA Studio, invites participants to explore the creative process of Gelli plate printing through a vintage botanical lens. Perfect for beginners and seasoned creatives alike, the session focuses on building rich, textured prints using unconventional tools, laser-cut stencils, and natural materials.
Participants will use botanical plants sourced from the local park, combined with custom-designed laser-cut frames and stencil templates, to create prints with the nostalgic feel of sepia-toned photographs and cyanotype imagery. Through guided exploration, participants will experiment with earth-tone colour palettes, layering techniques, and creative mark-making.
Participants Will Learn To:
- Understand the basics of Gelli plate printing using alternative tools and techniques
- Pull prints directly from real botanical materials
- Incorporate laser-cut stencils and vintage-style frame designs
- Mix slow drying acrylics to recreate a sepia or cyanotype effect
- Produce a collection of unique, vintage-style prints to take home
