Oil painting is a traditional art form, with its history stretching back to as early as the 5th century. It gained popularity in the 15th century, and has carried on into modern times.
Commonly used oils include linseed oil, poppy seed oil, walnut oil and safflower oil. Previously oil paint took 1 to 3 weeks to dry, but thanks to improvements in emulsifiers as well as other developments, this allows them to be dried in 1 to 3 days. Thanks to the drying time, however, you can paint in layers and ensure that you get a multi-layered painting.
If you need a painting set, or individual paints, as well as painting mediums to create something different, we offer a wide selection across all, as well as a more modern water mixable paint to ensure that you can create something new and unusual from traditional oil paintings and experiment with your painting style.
If you’re just starting out on your art journey, or are an experienced landscape or portrait oil painter, we’ve got a set of oil paints and supplies to keep you creating and keep you on your art project design, whether it’s contemporary or traditional. If you’re just starting out, then do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you need recommendations on what oil paints to use as well as how to use them.
