To find out more about the current series go to Sky Portrait Artist Of The Year.
After the huge success of last year’s show, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year is back for 2014.
Here at Cass Art we are delighted to support the second series, a series with more famous faces and artistic talent – so tune in for another unmissable season of painting in action.
On the search for an outstanding artist they can crown the winner, Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner are returning with their wit and charm to present the show, which is airing its first episode on Tuesday 4thNovember.
The programme aims to discover talented artists of all capabilities, whether they are amateurs, professionals or hobbyists, and give them the chance to shine.
The judges this year are award-winning portrait artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, former Director of Exhibitions at the Royal Academy and the National Portrait Gallery Kathleen Soriano, and Kate Bryan, Head of Contemporary at the Fine Art Society.
Each episode will document one of six regional heats, which saw the shortlisted applicants produce a portrait of one of three famous sitters. (If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, a Lord of the Rings fan or an Inbetweeners fan, you’re in for a treat.)
The artists get just four hours to create their masterpieces, whilst under scrutiny of the judges – and you watching at home, of course.
The heats take place in London, Dublin, Edinburgh and Cardiff, and at the end of each the judges will choose one artist to go through to the next round. An overall winner will then be crowned Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2014 at the end of the series.
The grand final will take place at the National Portrait Gallery, and the winning artist will receive a £10,000 commission to paint actor Alan Cumming for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, as well as a year’s supply of Cass Art materials.
