Introducing our Cass Art Islington Team

by Cass Art

Hello students of London! We might not be meeting you all at Freshers Fairs and University events this September, but that doesn't mean we can't bring our team to you. Meet our Cass Art Islington team below - learn about their creative journeys, their speciality knowledge and favourite Cass Art materials!

Our Islington branch is our London Flagship store, the UK’s largest art supply store on three floors. Find us on the East Side of London, just a five-minute walk from Angel tube station. We have an entire floor dedicated to painting and drawing, another for paper and canvas and our lower ground floor full of kid’s creative supplies and a large range of craft, printmaking and modelling materials.

Dollie Mombelli

Creative Jouney

I’m originally from Nice France, but I’ve been living in the amazing London for 25 years and consider it my city. I don’t have an Art School background but my mum was the queen of DIY and I guess she passed it on to me.

Product Speciality

My speciality is craft, I make home décor, headdresses, fascinators and jewellery. I love looking around charity and antique shops to find things to upcycle, dolls, house frames, clothes etc. I don’t decide what to look for, but let the item find me and inspire me to make something from it. I use a lot of hot glue, ethical taxidermy, skulls and bones, glitters, crystals, papier Mache, acrylic paint, spray paint, gilding and mediums to create different textures. I do a lot of fashion shows and photo shoot collaborations, wedding bridesmaids and brides fascinators, pieces for windows displays. I sell my headdresses and accessories on Etsy. Working for Cass Art is amazing, my knowledge on new materials is growing as I keep learning from my team – which I can use to elevate my art. I’m like a kid in a sweet shop!

Alice Donadu

My name is Alice and I started my journey when I was a kid and I wanted to become a fashion designer. I stopped when I was older just to start drawing Manga. Incredibly I loved to draw but not to colour any of my work! Fast forward 10 years I bought a watercolour book by chance and started my journey into Watercolours and afterwards into Abstract paintings and never looked back. Now it's difficult for me to draw while I like to use pure colours a lot!

Product Speciality

I specialise in Watercolours, acrylics and Pebeo Mixed Media with a strong love for papers and texturized work. There are not enough mediums in this world!

Favourite Cass product

My favourite Cass Product is the Cold Pressed Watercolour Paper. Possibly the Jumbo one cause when I start I can't stop at one painting!

Symon Potter

Creative journey

I like to explore my emotions through an abstract approach of flow, colour & texture. I use a variety of materials ranging from metal leaves, latex, texture mediums, pouring mediums, resin, oil or acrylic paint. I find painting very therapeutic, particularly during these recent times & I like the discipline & challenges it gives me. I have travelled to many incredible places over the years such as India, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Australia & Indonesia & more. I use these experiences to make my art through rich colours & textures. Everyday experiences also influence my art, for example it may be from some graffiti on a wall I saw, or certain colours that caught my attention on my way to my studio.

Product Speciality

Acrylic Paint & Mediums.

Favourite Cass Art product

Golden Paint, because the quality & variety of colour. It's so highly pigmented, the colours really stand out & pop on a painting. I like the way the paint consistency varies with different paint ranges, such as High Flow, Fuid & Heavy body also.

Emma Kilraine

Creative Journey

I am a designer and self-taught rug maker, with a degree in furniture design. I've worked with all kinds of materials and processes, as I like to follow where ever my concepts take me. For my latest project, I have been working on a series of paintings with gouache inspired by my research into minerals and pigments - from these I will extract shapes, patterns and forms for my next rug collection.

Product Speciality

Gouache Paint, Posca Pens and Model Making.

Favourite Cass Art product

Big fan of the Cass Art Sable Brushes at the moment - particularly the smallest sizes! Very durable and work perfectly with Gouache.

Jamie Duncan

Creative Journey

My work stems from an ongoing interest in abstraction, this has dated back to as early as my foundation year. Since then, this relationship has developed and changed. I believe this to be the same with abstraction’s history. A movement which is inevitably linked to modernism but is now a subject of reinterpretation.

Product Speciality

Oil and Acrylic Painting.

Favourite Cass Art product:

Michael Harding, Old Holland Oil Paints and Golden Acrylic Paint.

You can follow Jamie's work on his Instagram. and his website.

Robert Vilkelis

Creative Journey

Art is about creating an experience for other people to step into. I love exploring the theme of “Identity and Duality” through my background in psychology, and I love learning different alphabets and writing systems as a hobby – I’m up to eleven right now with Korean Hangeul!

Product Speciality

If you have a colour you bought years ago that you can’t find again, I’m your guy. From spray paints to watercolours, I’m all about the chemistry and history of pigments and how you can make the most of your colours!

Favourite Cass Art Product

Cass Art Calligraphy Paper needs more love. Whenever I want to make my writing look like it’s written on fancy parchment, it’s my go-to choice.
