Exclusive to Cass Art, the Rosso Emerald Crimson x Michael Harding Portrait Palette brings together ten oil colours selected by portrait artist Rosso Emerald Crimson and developed in collaboration with Cass Art and Michael Harding.
Built around Rosso’s seventeen years of painting portraits, the set reflects the palette she has developed through hundreds of paintings and years of experimenting with colour. Each pigment has been chosen for the role it plays in mixing convincing, nuanced skin tones across a wide range of complexions.
The palette is divided into three groups. Rosso’s staples form the foundation: Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson and Ivory Black act as her working primaries, alongside Warm White for lightening mixtures while retaining their character. Terre Verte works as a subtle neutraliser, helping to mute and balance skin tones without overpowering them.
Four ‘satellite’ colours complete the palette: Opera Rose, Moss Green, Warm Yellow and Ultramarine Blue. These allow for further shifts in temperature, undertones, highlights and shadows, giving artists greater scope when responding to different complexions and lighting.
The Michael Harding Oil Paint range is made by hand using traditional methods for the highest quality. The colours contains the finest of the finest pigments, ground in refined cold-pressed linseed oil, resulting in luminous, brilliant colours with very high tint strengths. They are totally free of fillers, extenders or driers, with a texture that's buttery and lightfast.
