Free Thinking 2016: A Place to Play, Make, Listen, Talk & Inspire

If you're a student, recent graduate, aspiring artist or art-lover, Free Thinking 2016 is the event for you.

Cass Art has collaborated with Free Range Graduate Shows to bring Free Thinking back to The Old Truman Brewery in July 2016. We'll be hosting a selection of talks, performances, workshops and collaborative activities to inspire, motivate and engage recent graduates and other art enthusiasts to pursue their creative careers. 

What's on and when?

Friday 8th July 5pm-7pm – Creative Start-Ups Talks & Panel Discussion

Not content with just getting a foot in the door? This evening of talks and discussion will offer useful insight for those who want to blaze their own path into the art world. You’ll be hearing from a range of speakers from across the creative industries, who’ll share their own post-graduation journeys, plus offer some top-tips on how to move on from art school and start up your own creative company. Speakers include: James Burke- Co-Founder & Creative Director of Acrylicize, Amy Moffat- Founder of Junko Magazine, Amy Basil- Marketing & Brand Director for MUBI, and India Irving- Co-Founder of ArtAttack app.

Saturday 9th July from 2pm – Performance Art Drop-In

Take a seat, open your mind and let yourself be entertained. Students and recent graduates will be showcasing their performance art talents with a line-up of spoken word, dance, acting and more. Not sure what to expect? Neither do we!

Sunday 10th July 2pm-6pm – Art Macabre: Death Drawing

Join the Art Macabre team for a theatrical afternoon life drawing salon, where costumed models will channel the spirit of iconic artist, Frida Kahlo, to celebrate the July anniversaries of both her birth and death. Sit back and take in the scenery, as two contrasting Fridas pose amongst a still-life set, bursting with colour.

All materials provided. Tickets cost £5 and must be booked in advance. Book your place here.

Monday 11th July 6pm-7pm - Art Education & Beyond

Acclaimed artist Bob & Roberta Smith is joined by the Chair of University of the Arts London, Sir John Sorrell, for an evening talk and discussion around the theme of creative education and progression into the art world.

Tickets are free, but space is limited. Attendees are advised to book in advance, as entrance may not be available on the day. Book your place here.

Free Thinking will be running from the 8th-11th July 2016, at Shop13, Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL. 

Anything else I should know about?

Get your hands messy at our Try-Me tables, complete with plenty of art materials to keep you entertained for an afternoon. If you find yourself looking for inspiration, take a break on our comfy seating and enjoy BLANK CANVAS, an exhibition of artwork by the Cass Art Student Ambassadors.
